Walking Tour for Enjoying Dishes of Long-Established Shops and Sake in Asakusa & Nihonbashi Areas - Two-Day Event Where You Can Appreciate Traditional Edo Cultures

Michibiki Hananotsuji Shopping Street Promotion Association , Yaesu Naka1chome Shotenkai and Ichiyozakura kokusai-dori Promotion Association are going to jointly hold an event titled “Food, Fun and Pleasure in Nihonbashi & Asakusa” as a part of their initiative to support wide-area local shopping streets for the purpose of the stabilization and development of small and medium-sized businesses as well as the activation of local economy.
The venues for the main programs will be NIHONBASHI PLAZA BUILDING and Sakura Street on Saturday, November 30th and Tokyo Asakusa Union Kenban and Senzoku Park on Sunday, December 8th, respectively.
This event will offer the special bento box sales by the long-established shops in respective areas, a sake-tasting walking tour, the product sales by very popular confectionery shops, the free trial and viewing of traditional Edo intangible cultures, a festival with many vendor stalls, etc. In addition, in each venue, various events and programs are scheduled to be held for featuring the tasting and sales events by long-established shops. In Nihonbashi area, the programs relating to shakuhachi, shamisen, dai-kagura, geiki, trial ride of jinrikisha, shimenawa making and traditional Japanese clothing as well as the trial lessons by the long-established shops from respective areas are going to be carried out. Meanwhile, in Asakusa area, those events such as Asakusa Shinmon’s ki-yari/matoi-furi, kodan storytelling, geiki, ONONO KOMACHI’s entertainment show and the trial lessons by the long-established shops from each area will be held.

A next-generation Japanese instrument unit currently attracting the most attentions with its one and only sounds created by a melodious and emotional shakuhachi and a chuzao shamisen having both aggressiveness and subtleness. This music group has been doing vigorous activities inside and outside Japan such as receiving the first prize and the special music award at an international competition held in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Additionally, this group, as the member of a music unit named “AUNJ Classic Orchestra” consisting of 8 Japanese instrument players, participated in the tour visiting world heritages including Mont Saint-Michel in France and Angkor Wat of Cambodia, performed at notable sites representing Japan including The Grand Shrine of Ise and Yakushi-ji Temple, and appeared in many TV programs such as “Nihongo-de-Asobo” of NHK E-Tele Channel and “Daimei-no-Nai Ongakukai (Untitled Concert)” of TV Asahi Channel.

This is a kind of Kagura, Japan’s traditional entertainment, which has been very popular as a variety entertainment program among a wide range of people since the end of Edo Period. This entertainment program consists of “Mai (Dance)” part including shishimai (lion dance) in which an exorcism or the likes are performed mainly through the dancing of shishi (shishi) and “Kyoku (acrobatic performance)” part represented by the umbrella spinning performance.

Asakusa Shinmon
Loving the manliness of Tatsugoro, Yoshihiro Sojo of Ueno Daiji Temple requested him to take the managerial position around Asakusa area. Tatsugoro admirably fulfilled his responsibilities, establishing his overwhelming influences over Asakusa area. Then, Sojo made an approach to Yoshinobu Hitotsubashi and successfully made him acquainted with Tatsugoro. Yoshinobu also liked Tatsugoro very much, ordering him to be the guard of “Shinmon (New Gate)” when Ms. Syunnin Jugo started her retired life in Asakusa and newly opened a Buddhist priesthood. This is how Tatsugoro began identifying himself as a new gate – Shinmon.

Born in Shinjuku, Tokyo in 1954; Became a disciple of the 7th-generation Danshi Tatekawa in 1978; Having an experience of being the only uchi-deshi (live-in disciple) of the 7th-generation Danshi Tatekawa [4]. Considering his experience of eating and sleeping together with Danshi for a long term, Danko Tatekawa is said to inherit Danshi’s specialty performances most precisely among many of his disciples.

ONONO KOMACHI
The idle group comprising 4 girl members from Aichi Prefecture. They are a Japanese-style entertainment unit that provides “the performances of Japanese traditional cultures added by new elements”: singing, Japanese dancing and illusional magics. In the motif of Onono Komachi, a waka poet, from Heian Period who lived her whole life in Aichi Prefecture, this group is comprised of Reina Konishi, Saki Yamakawa (20), Saina Fukushima (19) and Kaede Sakanaka (25). They are the selected group of members who used to be the members of their respective groups engaging in activities based in Nagoya.
