■ Development History

We began development of the Floating Aluminum Tsunami Shelter (hereafter TTS80) after witnessing the unprecedented earthquake which struck eastern Japan on March 11, 2011 and resolved to never again permit such a tragic event to occur. The staff of both TSUNEISHI FACILITIES & CRAFT CO., LTD., which has a history of achievements in the manufacture and maintenance of aluminum vessels and FRP lifeboats, and TFC CO., LTD. has begun joint manufacture of the TTS80.

The awareness of earthquakes and tsunamis increased in many areas following March 11, 2011, and preparation of emergency food and equipment, clarification of emergency shelter locations, as well as the implementation of evacuation drills began to move forward. However, evacuation of the elderly, handicapped, and people without access to public transportation is a difficult prospect. In addition, there is also the issue of the coordinators who stay behind until the last minute to assist the evacuees. The TTS80 was developed to protect the life of those evacuees and coordinators.
