TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING Co., Ltd. held “Tsuneishi Olympics”, a competition for shipbuilding skills at domestic and overseas factories

On October 25,2014, TSUNEISHI SHIPBUILDING Co., Ltd. (head office: Fukuyama, Hiroshima, Japan) aiming to improve skills in order to increase the quality of shipbuilding, held the “Tsuneishi Olympics”, at the Tsuneishi factory and Overseas Group Company, TSUNEISHI GROUP (ZHOUSHAN) SHIPBUILDING, Inc. Participants competed with each other in crucial skills for shipbuilding such as welding, painting, and transport.

At the Tsuneishi factory, where the event was held for the 14th time, competitions were held in 6 categories including weasel gas welding, operating Forklift, a block-making between teams. A total of 98 people, including technicians, staff of companies that cooperate with Tsuneishi, and technical trainees from overseas tested their skills.At the closing ceremony, Tsuneishi Factory General Manager Masahiro Kawakita said “The foundation of shipbuilding depends on the skills of each worker. I think that thanks to this competition, all the workers have seen the importance of the skills and reconfirm”.

At the TSUNEISHI GROUP (ZHOUSHAN) SHIPBUILDING Inc. where the event was held for the 4th time, 171 people (including judges) from TSUNEISHI GROUP (ZHOUSHAN) SHIPBUILDING, Inc. and cooperating companies participated in a total of 8 categories. At the closing ceremony, the General Manager, Toshio Sato, said “I hope that by improving everybody’s level of skill, we can further improve the quality of the ships built at this factory”.

The first Tsuneishi Olympics were held in 2001 at the Tsuneishi Factory. It started with the 1 category “welding”. The next year, ironwork category was added and since the third year ,in response to requests from employees, painting, outfitting and transportation.

This event has been held at TADOTSU SHIPBUILDING Co., Ltd. since 2006, at TSUNEISHI GROUP (ZHOUSHAN) SHIPBUILDING, Inc. (Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province, China) since 2011, and at TSUNEISHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES (CEBU), Inc. (Cebu, Philippines) in 2012, and increasing the level of shipbuilding skills in both domestic and overseas factories.
